Design a 5-page website or blog to promote your hometown (or any other place if you so choose). Present your design along with a strategy that explains the decisions you’ve made during the design process (keep the six steps mentioned in the lesson Web Design Process: Designing for Web (part 2) in mind). Remember, it’s important for us to see how you think, so explain why you decided to do things the way you did.
This is a front-end design lesson task. No coding or publishing is needed.
Strategic Design
For this lesson task I have chosen Bergen. I made the website in InDesign. The website’s main purpose is to show Bergen city to tourists to make them want to come. The target audience that I´m reaching out to get is middle class to higher class tourists, that are willing to use money when they are i Bergen. As everybody knows Norway is one of the most expensive countries in the world to travel to. The client’s problems will be solved, because the webpage has easy to find information, needed for the user. The brand image is nature. Bergen and the western part of Norway have a lot of nature. With its many fjords, mountains and spectacular view. The results can be measured by how many likes the site gets or bookings at different places mentioned on the site. Improvements can be made just by adding or changing new features that come to the city.
Design Choices
For the first page I chose to use an image of the colorful Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, which is one of Bergen’s most popular tourist attractions and on UNESCOS World Heritage Site. The image covers most of the page with added heading with menu bar and footer with contact info. The image gives an idea to the target audience about Bergen’s culture and history. The second page is a standard page with go to info about hotels and restaurants. The page is made with two colorful images both with click on buttons for more information. Page three and four are made like page two. Page three with the fjords as theme and page four with mountains as theme. Both with colorful and beautiful nature images. Page five is the same concept but just with one image and one theme which is what to do. For the headings and the footer i used a grayish color that fit with the image in the first page. I used the same color throughout the website. My choice of fonts is, for the headings Optima Bold and for the text I used Optima regular. I used the same fonts to make it simple and clean.
